Henri Boillot
The Boillot family established themselves in the region in 1885, and Henri represents the fifth winemaking generation, with his son now overseeing the production of the reds.
The winery is located on the “other” side of the RN74 in an estate that includes the Damy cooperage. This impressive facility affords Henri far more space then if he were couched in some mediaeval maison in one of the villages, which is mandatory when you have such an all-embracing portfolio of wines.
Henri Boillot produces domaine and negociant wines from Burgandy’s most renowned growing areas. Henri is a 5th generation vigneron in the Cote d’Or. Wines of Maison Henri Boillot are produced in a cellar in Meursault and are vibrant and full of character.

Vinous (92)Good full medium red. Sexy aromas of black cherry, minerals, licorice and spices, along with the high-pitched minty nuance shown by the Chevrets. Tighter in its grain and more structured and serious than the Chevrets, but at the same time displaying more class and stronger minerality. Finishes with excellent subtle aromatic persistence and unusually fine tannins for a Cote de Beaune 2006. |

Vinous (93-95)Airy and weightless within the context of the year, the 2012 Volnay Les Caillerets is wonderfully complete and expressive. An exotic mélange of graphite, pencil shavings, white pepper and blue fruits takes shape in a precise, chiseled Burgundy that impresses for its finely cut texture and delineation. Totally vivid in the glass, the Caillerets dazzles from start to finish. This is a great example of the vintage at its very best. |

Vinous (92+)Medium red. Explosive aromas of red berries, licorice, chocolate and underbrush. Not particularly fleshy but juicy and sharply delineated, with terrific cut to the tangy dark berry and spice flavors. Given its firm spine of acids and tannins, this Volnay also boasts lovely charm and delicacy. Finishes very long and perfumed. (Incidentally, Boillot believes that his 2010s will remain open, but I'd still give this wine at least five or six years in the cellar, as it's likely to put on weight in bottle.) |

Vinous (91)(from four different ages of vines ranging from 40 to 90 years old; Boillot's Santenots comes from younger vines): Full medium red. Brooding aromas of blueberry, blackberry and menthol; lots of tiny millerandé berries here. Silky and saline on the palate; deeper than the Santenots but showing less sex appeal and early juiciness to its flavors of dark berries, spices and menthol. But this is chewier and more concentrated and a bit more important on the finish. |

Wine Advocate (93)The 2009 Volnay Les Fremiets shows the wilder side of Volnay in its distinct notes of game, cured meats and dark red fruit. It, too, comes across as young and full of life. This is far from an easygoing 2009 on many counts. Anticipated maturity: 2019-2029. |

Vinous (94+)Good full red. Redcurrant and spices on the nose, with hints of smoke, game and tobacco. A step up in intensity and concentration from the Chevrets, with enticing sweetness leavened by medicinal reserve. Beautifully balanced wine with a firm spine of building tannins and the fresh acidity to ensure a long life in bottle. Very long on the aftertaste. |

Vinous (90-92)Bright, dark red. Reticent, rather wild aromas of dark cherry and underbrush. Energetic but backward; much tighter today than the village wine and more dominated by its structure. The wild quality carries through on the palate. Best today on the back end, where fine-grained tannins spread out to saturate the palate. |
