Henri Boillot
The Boillot family established themselves in the region in 1885, and Henri represents the fifth winemaking generation, with his son now overseeing the production of the reds.
The winery is located on the “other” side of the RN74 in an estate that includes the Damy cooperage. This impressive facility affords Henri far more space then if he were couched in some mediaeval maison in one of the villages, which is mandatory when you have such an all-embracing portfolio of wines.
Henri Boillot produces domaine and negociant wines from Burgandy’s most renowned growing areas. Henri is a 5th generation vigneron in the Cote d’Or. Wines of Maison Henri Boillot are produced in a cellar in Meursault and are vibrant and full of character.

Vinous (92-95)
(a negociant wine, but Boillot harvested these grapes and vinified with 30% whole clusters; aged in all new barrels) Full ruby-red. Wild aromas of black and red cherry, five-spice powder and cumin. Fat, concentrated and sweet but quite pliant, with the exotic Asian spice character accenting the sappy black raspberry and cherry fruit. Sweet but lively wine, finishing with broad tannins and terrific verve.Inc. VAT£503.05 -
Vinous (90-92)
(a negociant wine, but Boillot took over the vineyard work here in July) Medium red. A burst of cherry, licorice and spice on the nose, along with a coolish peppery note. Supple but juicy, with lively flavors of pepper and spices. Finishes long, peppery and aromatic, with dusty tannins and an almost gum-numbing austerity. The fruit here came in with 13.5% potential alcohol, but this is not going to be an early charmer.Inc. VAT£503.05 -
Vinous (92-95)
Deep ruby-red. Brooding aromas of medicinal black cherry, licorice and dusty spices. Wonderfully sweet and supple for young Clos Vougeot, with powerful black fruit flavors enlivened by violet. Quite racy and energetic in the middle for all its creaminess. Finishes with big, broad, fine-grained tannins and superb persistence. Boillot has owned these vines in Le Grand Maupertuis (planted in 1976 and 1952) since 2008.Inc. VAT£503.05 -
Vinous (93)
Bright, dark red. Captivating aromas and flavors of raspberry, flowers and gibier, lifted by a note of white pepper. Comes across as distinctly wild after Boillot's estate bottlings from the Côte de Beaune. Quite broad and round for both Clos Vougeot and the 2014 vintage, offering noteworthy freshness, pliancy and depth. Finishes very smooth and long, with ripe, fine-grained tannins and no hard edges.Inc. VAT£502.40 -

Boillot's 2015 Clos Vougeot Grand Cru, which hails from the lieu-dit Grand Maupertui (neighboring Anne Gros' parcel), reveals a brooding bouquet of cassis, plum, musk and incense, framed by toasty new oak. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied and multidimensional, fresh and vibrant despite its considerable amplitude and power, with a fine-grained chassis of tannin and a long, sapid finish. This is a rich, lavish Clos Vougeot which should develop beautifully in the cellar.Inc. VAT£502.40 -

A pretty and very fresh if quite restrained nose is composed by notes of plum, dark cherry and discreet wood nuances. There is outstanding richness to the round and admirably pure big-bodied flavors that possess impressive mid-palate concentration while concluding in a markedly firm, dusty, mouth coating and moderately austere finish that delivers seriously good length. Patience required though.Inc. VAT£395.60 -

The 2018 Clos Vougeot Grand Cru is showing very well, soaring from the glass with aromas of wild berries, rose petals, violets, orange rind and dark chocolate. On the palate, it's full-bodied, concentrated and muscular, with lively acids and a powdery but elegantly refined chassis of structuring tannins, concluding with a long and resonant finish.Inc. When the Boillots’ previous source started to bottle his own wines in 2015, it was necessary to switch to another source which seems to be equally good. Rich deep purple black. This is certainly ripe, perhaps even a gamey quality. Freshens up in the glass. Huge fruit weight here, dark notes but actually a core of pure red fruit beneath. Strong but fine tannins, this is going to be quite impressive. Tasted: 10/1/2021Inc. VAT£426.80 -
Vinous (91-93)
The 2021 Clos Vougeot Grand Cru (from Grand Maupertuis) is bright, piercing and crystalline. This is a very pretty wine, but it needs to be appreciated on its own terms. I don’t see a ton of Clos Vougeot character; rather, the vintage style speaks most clearly. Readers will find a tonic, energetic Burgundy. - Antonio GalloniInc. VAT£1,122.02 -
Vinous (93-95)
The 2022 Meursault Clos Richemont 1er Cru is a dense, opulent white built on texture more than anything else. It is one of the most overt wines in the Boillot range. Orange jam, spice, vanillin, lemon confit and baked apple tart infuse the 2022 with tons of textural intensity. This is such a distinctive wine.Inc. VAT£1,250.69 -

Pale primrose colour. Rather more elegant in bouquet than Poruzots, super fine, iodine and mineral as well as white fruit flesh, I like the balance of this wine more than the Poruzots. Very persistent with excellent tension. Long tight and classy. Tasted: 10/1/2021Inc. VAT£1,734.29 -

Tasted blind at the annual “Burgfest” tasting in Bouilland. The 2013 Meursault 1er Cru Genevrières from Henri Boillot took time to unfold in the glass, but eventually reveals attractive lime flower, cold granite and yellow flower scents, later accompanied by acacia honey. The palate is well balanced with crisp acidity. There is just the right amount of bitter lemon here that imparts tension from start to finish, leading to a composed finish with a salinity that begs another sip. Quite simply, a delicious Meursault.
