Laurent Perrier
About Laurent Perrier
With a storied history dating back to 1812, Laurent-Perrier is, without doubt, one of the great names in Champagne famed for its prestige cuvée, the only one of its kind across all Grandes Marques. Collectors will no doubt be familiar with the mighty Krug Édition series, blending wines across years to create an NV with the quality of a vintage Champagne and infinite complexity. Grand Siècle is an extension of this notion, honed and perfect by the talented vignerons at Laurent-Perrier and elevated to the status of prestige cuvée.

Vinous (96)Tasted from magnum, the 2004 Grande Cuvée Rosé Alexandra, Laurent-Perrier’s flagship Rosé is a blend of 80% Pinot Noir (on the skins) and 20% Chardonnay vinified together that has only been bottled seven times since 1982. From the very first taste, the 2004 is utterly spectacular. Rich, ample and vertical in feel, the 2004 is dazzling. Dried rose petal, star anise, tobacco, dried flowers, red berry fruit and earthy notes all grace this utterly exquisite Champagne. As good as the 2004 is today – and it is fabulous – it will be even better in another few years’ time. The 2004 has been nothing short of magnificent on both occasions I have tasted it so far. |

Vinous - Antonio Galloni (96)The 2012 Rosé Cuvée Alexandra is the hidden gem in the Laurent Perrier range. I seldom see it talked about, which is a shame. Then again, Laurent Perrier only bottles this Champagne in very rare vintages that allow for a maceration of both Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. Rose petal, mint, kirsch, cinnamon and dried flowers caress the palate. Cuvée Alexandra is such a special Champagne, one I would very much like to see more often! |

Falstaff (96)A creamy nose promises a smooth opening, the scent of sweet-salt, hazelnutty crumble crust is mouth-watering. The palate is taut but tiny bubbles carry bright lemon zestiness to the tastebuds. It is this lemony serenity and clean-cut 2008 character that remains centre-stage throughout, with subtle autolysis in the background. Very elegant and lasting. |

James Suckling (99)Incredible aromas of apple skin, pie crust, praline and flowers. So young in the nose. Full-bodied with super-fine tannins. It’s tight and refined, yet structured and intense. Really long and beautiful. Still shy. Wonderful finish. 12 years on its lees before disgorging. Three vintages in the blend – 2008 (65%), 2007 (25%) and 2006 (10%). 60% chardonnay and 40% pinot noir. It’s the highest percentage of chardonnay ever. |

James Suckling (99)Dried lemons, salted almonds, oyster shells, croissants, iodine, baked apples, spices and some ginger notes. White pepper, too. Vibrant and fresh, with a distinct saline edge. I like the subtle spice character. So much subtle power and tension. 58% chardonnay and 42% pinot noir, from 2006, 2004 and 2002. 14 years on the lees, three or four more than the normal bottle release. Only available in magnum. Drink or hold. |

Jancis Robinson (19.5)Deep gold. Woo hoo! Really explosive cordite. Tight and fresh but with many nuances and extremely long. Creamy Chardonnay and some savoury notes. Lovely tight filigree texture. Masses of acidity – but lots of fruit too before a dry finish. Sort of like a really fine mature white burgundy but much fresher and more like a ballerina! |

Wine Advocate (93)The color is an intense orange-colored pink and the nose offers beautifully subtle, but also deep, intense flavors of ripe and macerated Pinot Noir and lemon. There is also great purity and finesse on the structured palate. The finish is fresh and reveals a perfect fruit. This Rosé drinks almost like a light red wine. |
