The Michel Gros Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru 2009 is a exquisite expression of the classic Burgundy Pinot Noir. Born from the esteemed Nuits-Saint-Georges region of France, this bottle reflects the superior craftsmanship of its producer, Michel Gros - a sixth-generation winemaker renowned within the Côte de Nuits landscape. Ravishing ruby in colour, the 2009 vintage offers a perfumed nose of dark cherries and local forest floor, mirrored on the palate with an impressive structure, evolving complexity and the long-lasting finish required of a 1er Cru class. The wine’s impeccable balance and silky texture result from the traditional hand-harvesting methods and 18 months of ageing in French oak barrels. Its relatively warm year is also reflected in the generous and ripe fruit flavours. For the discerning oenophile, a bottle of Michel Gros Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru 2009 signals an appreciation for great finesse and authenticity of the Burgundy terroir. |

Wine Advocate (89)Tasted blind at the Burgundy 2011 horizontal tasting in Beaune. There is a little reduction to bypass on the nose, although underneath this Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Clos des Réas appears to be some attractive cranberry and blackberry/briar scents, with fine tension and nicely integrated oak. The palate is crisp, lithe and silky in the mouth, commencing in harmonious fashion, but becoming a tad hard toward the finish. I am certain that bottle age will tenderize this Vosne-Romanée, but it seems sulky at the moment. I remain optimistic that it will repay 5-6 years in the cellar. |
