Vinous (97)
Bright, dark red; a bit more saturated than the Mazis. Knockout, slightly liqueur-like aromas and flavors of dark raspberry, boysenberry, rose petal, licorice and mint, complicated by musky soil tones. Pure silk on the palate but with its uncanny thickness of texture leavened by energy. This wonderfully tactile, savory wine saturates every square millimeter of the palate and finishes with powerful medicinal reserve and incredible building length. And yet there's no impression of weightiness here. This could be enjoyed right now with the right piece of meat, but I'd rather lay it down for eight or ten years.Inc. VAT£2,558.42 -
Vinous (94-97)
Dark red-ruby. Knockout nose combines raspberry, cherry, game and saline underbrush, plus a whiff of torrefaction. At once fully ripe and delicate; in a distinctly more feminine style than the Mazis. The plush, rich yet elegant flavors of medicinal dark fruits, spices and exotic flowers are complicated by salty minerality. Less sweet in the early going than the Mazis, finishing precise, classic and extremely long, with serious but fully buffered tannins that melt into the palate.Inc. VAT£2,655.62 -
Jancis Robinson (18)
Serious savour and earthiness on the nose here – much less rich than the other stablemates tasted so far. Very sweet on the palate though with great impact and tightness – though some dryness on the end. These are wines very much built to last.Inc. VAT£6,447.14 -
Vinous (93-95)
Iron, crushed rocks and rose petals meld into expressive red fruits in the 2012 Clos Vougeot. At once layered but also deeply expressive, the 2012 impresses for its balance and sense of harmony. The 2012 is a bit tense and compact, but all the elements are in the right place. This should be a fabulous bottle once the elements meld together a little more fully.Inc. VAT£790.82 -
Jancis Robinson (17)
Super-intense nose – much more than most Clos de Vougeots. But some Vosne vigour in there. Dry finish for the moment.Inc. VAT£4,439.54
