Poggio Antico
About Poggio Antico
Found in the heartland of Montalcino, Poggio Antico is uniquely located on a rocky promontory, enjoying a splendid south-westerly view. Although viticulture started only in 1984, this winery progressed rapidly in quality. Now standing toe-to-toe to prominent names such as Altesino and Valdicava, Poggio Antico crafts classical Sangiovese, eagerly sought-after by oenophiles in the world.
The upward trajectory of this winery has been particularly evident since the second generation, Paola Gloder, took over the business and subsequently the sale to Belgium investors in 2017. Having introduced radical renovations in the cellar and converting the vineyard to fully organic, the wine quality, naturally, goes from strength to strength. In the latest vintage, the winemaking team even replaced the use of oak with more cement and steel vats. This is done to pursue smaller batch vinification and thus improve wine precision and site intensity.
