Vinous (95-96)Light, green-tinged yellow. A powerful scented bouquet evokes violet, ripe citrus and orchard fruits, which are complicated by hints of dusty minerals and saffron. Juicy and concentrated on the palate, offering densely packed pear nectar, orange pith and honeysuckle flavors that show outstanding clarity and mineral lift. The floral and mineral notes persist on the incisive finish, which hangs on with superb tenacity. |

Vinous (91)(aged in one-third new oak): Bright purple. Ripe black and blue fruits, incense, candied flowers and smoky minerals on the perfumed nose. Smooth, palate-coating cherry and blueberry flavors show very good focus and vivacity thanks to juicy acidity and a jolt of peppery spices. Finishes sweet, broad and very long, with velvety tannins coming on late. |

Vinous (94)Saturated magenta. Expansive aromas of ripe red and blue fruit, potpourri, incense and smoky minerals pick up a spicy nuance as the wine opens up. Broad and seamless in the mouth, displaying fine delineation to the sappy, mineral-drenched black raspberry, boysenberry, violet pastille and spicecake flavors. Shows a distinctly elegant character and finishes extremely long and sweet, with discreet tannins framing lingering blue fruit and floral notes. |

Vinous (98)A rush of dark cherry, plum, new leather, cedar, coffee, graphite, lavender and menthol makes a strong opening impression in the 2009 Thorevilos. Powerful, dense and explosive, Thorevilos is the one 2009 in this range I would continue to cellar another few years. It is utterly magnificent today, but still has room to blossom. As always, Thorevilos is distinguished by its structure, depth of expression and overall intensity, all signatures of this evocative vineyard located at the end of Mund Road just outside of St. Helena. |

Wine Advocate (99+)The 2012 Thorevilos is flamboyant, phenomenally concentrated, full-bodied, majestic and totally prodigious. It can be drunk young, but most readers will probably prefer to give it a few years of bottle age and consume it over the following 30+ years. |

Jane Anson Inside Bordeaux (96)Beautiful intensity and grip through the palate, this shows white pear, juicy citrus, and slate-filled salinity on the finish. Great stuff, with teasingly drawn out flavours, lift and tension, and hidden depths. Some frost meant the yields were lower than normal at 32hl/h. 15% malolactic fermentation to soften the acidities, with Sauvignon Gris vines included within the Sauvignon Blanc count, and no Muscadelle in the blend as the vines have now been uprooted, giving a slight break in style (for the better in my opinion). 3.25ph, 45% new barrels for ageing. First year with Jean-Emmanuel Danjoy as director from beginning to end of the growing season, after Philippe Dhaulluin's retirement. |

Wine Advocate (96)Tasted blind at the Burgundy 2011 horizontal tasting in Beaune. The Richebourg 2011 has a more extravagant, bold, multilayered bouquet with blackberry, wild strawberry, hints of undergrowth and light marine influences coming in to play: very complex. The palate still has some unresolved oak on the entry, but there is great tension and vibrancy here, the tannins fine and lending this great tension. I would not broach a bottle now because there is so much to give in the future. Just like in the blind Amoureuses tasting in Holland, here Bichot proves itself as one of the top-flight producers. Bravo! |

Vinous (92)The 2016 Barolo Capalot Vecchie Viti is dark, beguiling and very pretty. Rose petal, orange peel, cinnamon, kirsch, sweet red cherry and sweet pipe tobacco give the Capalot striking aromatic nuance and a real sense of exoticism that is quite inviting. Medium in body and constantly changing in the glass, the Capalot captures all of the complexities that make Nebbiolo and Barolo so fascinating. The tannins need time to soften, but there is plenty to look forward to once that happens. |

Vinous - Stephen Tanzer (93-95)Deep ruby color. Less forthcoming aromas of black fruits, grilled nuts, violet and an exotic suggestion of apricot. Thick and concentrated; conveys an almost salty impression of extract. Very backward. Finishes with a strong tannic spine. Very strong juice, but doesn't yet offer the smoky complexity of the '96. |

Vinous (94)Full ruby-tinged red. Cool, complex aromas of black cherry, currant, camphor, tar, mint and violet. Sweet, dense and packed with fruit; large-scaled and lush, given shape by ripe acidity. More powerful than the Loreto, but the big, broad tannins are also extremely well buffered. Less expressive on the back end than the Loreto but shows outstanding length. Like the '97, this wine does not come across as especially oaky due to its sheer material. |

Vinous (92+)(from 60+-year-old vines facing southeast; aging included 20% new barriques Good full red. Spicy redcurrant aroma lifted by a note of rose petal. Juicy, spicy and aromatic in the mouth, with lovely cut and intensity and a firm tannic spine. Less lush today than the Loreto, and showing less early sweetness, but this elegant, juicy wine projects lovely nebbiolo perfume and has the structure for a graceful evolution in bottle. Rocca told me this vineyard features the family's own clones and was planted by his grandfather. |

Vinous (96)The 2019 Barbaresco Ronchi is a deep, potent wine. In this tasting, the Ronchi impresses with its stature, aromatic presence and textural intensity. Dark red cherry, red plum, cinnamon, rose petal and dried flowers emerge with a bit of coaxing, but the Ronchi is one of the least giving wines in the range today. I would cellar it for at least a few years. It is another wine where elegance and power meld together. |

Vinous (96)Aldo Conterno’s 1990 Barolo Riserva Granbussia, a wine from the estate’s glory days, more than lives up to its reputation. The Granbussia is darker and noticeably softer than the Monfortino, signs that Aldo Conterno long had a more modernist leaning than his brother, Giovanni Conterno, who made the 1990 at the family’s Giacomo Conterno estate. Both wines are a real pleasure to drink, not just taste. This flight is incredibly instructive, but also hits all the high notes on the pleasure scale. |

Vinous (91-93)Bright ruby. Highly nuanced aromas of blackcurrant, pungent minerals and spicy, toasty oak. Large-scaled yet light on its feet. Terrific fruit carries through to a very long, ripely tannic aftertaste. Kept fresh and lively by a flavor of licorice and very good acidity. A great showing for a vintage with a modest reputation for red wine in Spain. Palacios used more heavily toasted barrels following the rainy harvest of '97, but eschews charred oak in richer years like '98. |

Vinous (93-95)The 2018 Chambolle-Musigny Les Amoureuses 1er Cru uses 15% whole bunch from the 25-year-old vines (the rest are 10 years old). It has a fragrant, elegant bouquet of blackberry, briar, sage and subtle oxtail aromas that gently unfold in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with supple, very fine tannins, and here the Les Amoureuses character really shines. Veins of blue fruit and spices burst through on the finish. There is an appealing crescendo to this wine and it should age with style and panache. |

Vinous (91-93)Containing 100% whole bunch, the 2020 Chambolle-Musigny Les Borniques 1er Cru has a well defined nose with touches of white pepper percolating through the predominantly black fruit. Quite vivacious and the maturation in used oak only was an assiduous one. The palate is well balanced, blood orange infusing the black cherry fruit, fine grip with a slightly gourmet-like, granular finish. Give this time to open and try to compare with Dominique Le Guen's own Les Borniques from Hudelot-Baillet across the road. |

Vinous (94-96)The 2020 Clos Saint-Denis Grand Cru is raised in 50% new oak with 42% whole bunch. The bouquet shows a little more transparency and mineralité than the Charmes, quite focused at first, becoming more expansive with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with fine-grain tannins, taut and fresh, superb tension with a sorbet-fresh yet structured finish. This is excellent. |
