  • Raveneau Chablis Grand Cru Blanchots 2021 (3x75cl)

    Vinous (95-97)

The 2021 Chablis Blanchots Grand Cru has the most "classic" or what you might call "old school" bouquets amongst Raveneau's 2021s and I love it: razor-sharp, struck flint and granite scents. The palate is very taut on the entry, linear, a vertical Chablis that feels very long with a saline finish that lingers in the mouth. What a superb Blanchots - one for Chablis purists.

Wonderfully pure, high-pitched nose melds quinine, pineapple, crushed stone, orange zest, violet and lavender; smells like a current release. Densely packed and very rich, with seamless flavors of crushed wet stone, lichee and grapefruit complicated by notes of baked bread and honey. This is very much like licking a rock, and yet there are complicating hints of tropical fruits here too. Wonderfully classy, pure wine with a tactile, classy, very subtle and long finish. Still a baby, and compellingly vibrant for a wine from the 2000 vintage. The driest wine in this vertical tasting, at just 1.3 grams per liter of residual sugar.

  • Trimbach Riesling Clos Ste Hune 2011 (3x75cl)

    Wine Advocate (93+)

The 2011 Riesling Clos Ste Hune (in the market now, and which Pierre Trimbach compares with the 1983) is super ripe, rich, intense and complex on the nose. On the palate, this is a rich and concentrated, powerful but elegant and balanced Sainte Hune that currently lacks a bit of tension and vitality. However, the tannins will take the 2011 through many years, even though there is an initial hint of maturity already. Some caramel flavors in the finish. Bottled with 13.9% alcohol plus 6.6 of residual sugar.

Dense, fresh and juicy, displaying outstanding sugar-acid balance and an opulent mouthfeel that is nicely lifted by penetrating notes of mirabelle, lime, wet stones, lemon peel and almond. • Trimbach Riesling Clos Ste Hune 2016 (3x75cl)

Luminous straw. Penetrating nuances of lime and guava join the lemon verbena, jasmine, mineral and white stone fruit aromas on the knockout, captivating nose. Then dense, complex and multilayered, offering profound flavors of fresh citrus fruit, sweet spices and talcum powder. Closes extremely long, clean and precise; this is a young white wine of utterly mesmerizing beauty. I find this to be one of the best young CSHs I have ever tasted; it is stylistically different but almost on the same quality level as the marvelous 2010 CSH. The resulting wine, released as the 2021 Vin de France OSKAR, is lovely, opening in the glass with notes of pear, toasted nuts, dried white flowers and confit orange, framed by a deft touch of reduction, followed by a full-bodied, ample and layered palate that's concentrated and racy.

The 2021 Chablis Les Preuses Grand Cru needs a little more cohesion on the nose, and I was expecting a little more power to come through. I suspect that I just caught this on an off day. The palate is better with fine cohesion and acidity, decent depth with orange zest and spice. Very harmonious and persistent on the finish - I suspect this will open up beautifully once in bottle, but for me, it is shaded by the Les Clos at the premature juncture.

Grapes are hand-harvested from southerly-exposed limestone-rich vineyards straddling the communes of Aloxe-Corton and Pernand-Vergelesses. Following a meticulous fermentation in oak barrels, the wine matures for further 14-18 months, inviting a nuanced experience of creamy texture and nuanced, toasty impressions. Sulphite usage is minimal, respecting the wine's expressive, refined profile. A timeless embodiment of Chardonnay elegance, Thierry Pillot Corton Charlemagne Grand Cru 2020 is a stellar representation of Burgundy's prestigious Grand Cru pedigree.

    Vinous - Stephen Tanzer (94+)

Very closed chalky, minerally nose. Even less forthcoming than the Riesling Frédéric Emile , and much harder to taste today. Quite dense and tactile. Then very long and ripe on the firm finish; conveys an impression of crunchy, minerally austerity.

  • Trimbach Riesling Clos Ste Hune 2000 (3x75cl)

    Vinous (95+)

  • Trimbach Riesling Clos Ste Hune 2012 (3x75cl)

    James Suckling (97)

Very cool, delicate and floral with daring elegance. Not the most powerful wine of this ripe vintage, but extremely refined. A very long finish that is marked by chalky minerality. The way that it literally blossoms in the glass after half an hour suggests that this masterpiece has at least a couple of decades of life ahead of it. Decant if you want to drink now.

  • Trimbach Riesling Clos Ste Hune 2015 (3x75cl)

    Vinous (97+)

Bright golden-tinged straw-yellow. Enticing nose of yellow apple, mirabelle, crystallized ginger and white flowers, complicated by lemony minerality. Dense, fresh and juicy, displaying outstanding sugar-acid balance and an opulent mouthfeel that is nicely lifted by penetrating notes of mirabelle, lime, wet stones, lemon peel and almond. While this enters sweet, it finishes very clean and dry. Boasts one of the most fragrant, prettiest and most forward noses I recall in a young CSH.

  • Trimbach Riesling Clos Ste Hune 2016 (3x75cl)

    Vinous (98+)

Luminous straw. Penetrating nuances of lime and guava join the lemon verbena, jasmine, mineral and white stone fruit aromas on the knockout, captivating nose. Then dense, complex and multilayered, offering profound flavors of fresh citrus fruit, sweet spices and talcum powder. Closes extremely long, clean and precise; this is a young white wine of utterly mesmerizing beauty. I find this to be one of the best young CSHs I have ever tasted; it is stylistically different but almost on the same quality level as the marvelous 2010 CSH. One sniff (never mind taste) and I was left almost speechless - and I’m not usually one who keeps his mouth shut when I recognize a truly great wine.

    Wine Advocate (93-95)

Dancer's 2018 Meursault 1er Cru Perrières is his finest premier cru this year, unfurling in the glass with scents of citrus oil, crisp green apple, white flowers, beeswax and crushed chalk. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied, satiny and multidimensional, with a racy spine of acidity, exceptional texture and concentration and a long, mineral finish.

  • Vincent Dancer Oskar VdF 2021 (3x75cl)

    Wine Advocate (92-94)

Yields were so low in this vintage, that Dancer opted to blend his top crus together, picking and pressing Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru La Romanée and 1er Cru Tête du Clos together, then doing the same with Meursault 1er Cru Perrières and Chevalier-Montrachet, before blending the must and fermenting to produce just under three barrels of wine.

  • Vincent Dauvissat Chablis Grand Cru 'Les Clos' 2021 (3x75cl)

    Vinous (94-96)

The 2021 Chablis Les Clos Grand Cru is more open on the nose than Les Preuses, more floral with citrus peel and orange blossom aromas. The palate is well balanced with fine acidity, lightly spiced, quite cohesive but maybe the Les Preuses shows a little more sophistication towards the finish. This should evolve into a divine Les Clos but as usual, it will need time.

  • Vincent Dauvissat Chablis Grand Cru Les Preuses 2021 (3x75cl)

    Vinous (92-94)

The 2021 Chablis Les Preuses Grand Cru needs a little more cohesion on the nose, and I was expecting a little more power to come through. I suspect that I just caught this on an off day. The palate is better with fine cohesion and acidity, decent depth with orange zest and spice. Very harmonious and persistent on the finish - I suspect this will open up beautifully once in bottle, but for me, it is shaded by the Les Clos at the premature juncture.
