In Bordeaux, the birthplace of some of the world's most iconic wines, esteemed vineyards such as Château Lafite Rothschild, Château Margaux, Château Latour, and Château Haut-Brion produce exceptional red wines, showcasing the art of blending Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, and Malbec. The region is also renowned for its exquisite white wines, with vineyards like Château d'Yquem and Domaine de Chevalier producing legendary sweet wines.
Moving to Burgundy, the vineyards of Domaine de la Romanée-Conti, Domaine Leroy, and Domaine Armand Rousseau capture the essence of the region's revered terroir, crafting exquisite red wines from the Pinot Noir grape. Meanwhile, Domaine Leflaive and Domaine Coche-Dury are celebrated for their world-class white wines, predominantly made from Chardonnay.
The Champagne region, known for its sparkling wines, boasts illustrious houses such as Krug, Dom Pérignon, and Moët & Chandon, as well as grower-producers like Pierre Péters and Jacques Selosse. These vineyards create exceptional sparkling wines using the traditional method, offering a symphony of delicate bubbles, elegant flavors, and vibrant acidity.
In the Rhône Valley, iconic vineyards like Chapoutier, E. Guigal, and Château de Beaucastel produce remarkable red wines in the northern appellations of Hermitage, Côte-Rôtie, and Cornas, showcasing the elegance and power of Syrah. Further south, Châteauneuf-du-Pape is celebrated for its rich and full-bodied red blends, with Château Rayas and Clos des Papes leading the way.
In Alsace, vineyards such as Domaine Zind-Humbrecht and omaine Trimbach craft exquisite white wines, including Riesling, Gewürztraminer, and Pinot Gris, expressing the region's unique terroir and varietal character.
These are just a few highlights among the diverse array of wines that France offers. From the Loire Valley's crisp whites and elegant reds to the Languedoc-Roussillon's bold and robust wines, each region presents its own vinous treasures.

Like all Hennessy blends, the age is hard to pin down. I’m told by the brand ambassador that there are 100 eaux-de-vie in the blend, with “an average 25 to 100 years old.” In any case, it’s fresh and vibrant for its age, deep copper in color, featuring aromas of dried fruit, honey and candied citrus. In the mouth, it’s opulent, round and creamy, offering lots of warm citrus and ripe tropical fruit, and a touch of walnut and spice on the finish. It’s pleasant, no doubt, and it comes in a fancy bottle. But at the price, the liquid itself just doesn’t deliver value.Inc. VAT£2,248.78 -

Bright, dark red. Deep, brooding, very closed nose of black fruits, licorice, violet, spices and pepper. Layered, dense and concentrated, with classic cool-year inner-mouth tension and energy. The black fruit flavors are given a distinctly taut quality by strong framing acidity. Best today on the rising, penetrating, extremely long finish, which saturates the palate with remarkably sweet, harmonious, fine-grained tannins and leaves the salivary glands quivering. Great savory density and verve here without any undue impression of weight. The crop level was just 25 hectoliters per hectare, according to Sebastien Boillot.Inc. VAT£331.32

The 2021 Bonnes Mares Grand Cru is another attractive wine in this range from Boillot. Medium in body and nicely lifted, the Bonnes Mares has plenty of energy, if not quite the depth or textural resonance of the very best years. This is a decidedly small-scaled Bonnes Mares. - Antonio GalloniIn Bond£1,025.00 -

Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy (94-96)
A crimson ruby. A little wilder than the Chambertin duo, a little plummier, softly ripe raspberries, a range of interesting complex aromatics. Builds fascinatingly on the palate, possibly a higher pH but thoroughly rewarding, with a complex texture as well, multi-layered, and very long. Drink from 2032-2040. Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy (87-89)
No new wood for the generic Bourgogne. Pale lemon and lime, slight sandalwood to the nose. Pure and crisp with a lemon and salty finish, excellent density a little barrel toast. Long finish. This Bourgogne Chardonnay shows typical Boillot purity and precision. Tasted: 10/1/2021In Bond£188.00 -
Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy (88-90)
From appellation Bourgogne vineyards in Puligny-Montrachet and Meursault along with a bit of St-Aubin and Auxey-Duresses. Mid lemon yellow, with a very engaging correctly ripe Burgundian chardonnay bouquet. Sign up for this. There is still some gas present at the moment which enforces the welcome freshness. Drink from 2026-2028. Tasted Oct 2024.In Bond£177.00 -

Vinous (95+)
Bright, dark red. Deep, brooding, very closed nose of black fruits, licorice, violet, spices and pepper. Layered, dense and concentrated, with classic cool-year inner-mouth tension and energy. The black fruit flavors are given a distinctly taut quality by strong framing acidity. Best today on the rising, penetrating, extremely long finish, which saturates the palate with remarkably sweet, harmonious, fine-grained tannins and leaves the salivary glands quivering. Great savory density and verve here without any undue impression of weight. The crop level was just 25 hectoliters per hectare, according to Sebastien Boillot. In Bond£273.00
