  • Philippe Colin Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Chenevottes 2018 (12x75cl)

    Vinous (92-94)

The 2018 Chassagne-Montrachet Les Chenevottes 1er Cru, matured in 30% new oak, has a more Meursault-inspired bouquet that develops hints of hazelnut and nutmeg in the glass. The palate is very harmonious and precise, that nuttiness more subtle in the mouth than on the nose, and it unveils more salinity on the long finish. Delicious... and classy.

  • Philippe Colin Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Chenevottes 2019 (12x75cl)

    Vinous (90-92)

The 2019 Chassagne-Montrachet Les Chenevottes 1er Cru comes across tightly wound on the nose and requires coaxing, very flinty and with light bell pepper notes. You would almost think there is a touch of Sauvignon Blanc in the blend (there isn’t of course.) The palate is well balanced with a fine bead of acidity, though it does not quite deliver the verve or the comeliness of the preceeding Vergers and feels straightlaced on the finish. Maybe it has something up its sleeve for later?

    Vinous (91-93)

The 2019 Chassagne-Montrachet Les Vergers 1er Cru needs some coaxing from the glass, eventually revealing lemon sherbet and orange zest aromas, just a touch of marzipan in the background. The palate is clean and precise, the new oak is neatly integrated with a harmonious and poised finish with blood orange notes on the aftertaste. One of my picks from the domaine this year.

  • Philippe Colin Chevalier-Montrachet Grand Cru 2016 (6x75cl)

    Wine Advocate (93-95)

The 2016 Chevalier-Montrachet Grand Cru comprises of three barrels instead of the usual five, although there is an additional barrel that comes from Philippe's parents from this vintage onward. It has a well-defined and quite fragrant bouquet with scents of citrus fruit, orange blossom, wet granite and a touch of sea spray. I would have liked just a little more vigor at this stage. The palate is very well balanced with neatly integrated oak from the two new barrels, good weight in the mouth with a spicy vein that emerges toward the tensile finish. Despite the depleted quantity and the traumatic growing season, this is a very well-crafted Chevalier-Montrachet.
  • Philippe Colin Chevalier-Montrachet Grand Cru 2018 (6x75cl)

    Vinous (96)

The 2018 Chevalier-Montrachet Grand Cru has a kaleidoscopic nose with mineral-rich yellow fruit, chalk and apple blossom, cohering marvelously with aeration. The palate is beautifully balanced, quite powerful with real weight and density. Plenty of extract towards the finish. There is just the right amount of bitterness to keep this edgy. Excellent. Tasted blind at the Burgfest 2018 white tasting.

The 2021 Chevalier-Montrachet Grand Cru has a glorious, expressive and intense nose with crushed limestone, petrichor and citrus aromas that burst from the glass with razor-sharp delineation. The palate is fresh and vibrant on the entry, perhaps more lime-driven than I would have liked, especially after the arresting aromatics. Fine weight and length with some reduction, though quite peppery and persistent. It just loses a bit of composure in the final furlongs. Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting.

  • Philippe Colin Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Demoiselles Blanc 2021 (1x75cl)

    Vinous - Neal Martin (90)

The 2021 Puligny-Montrachet Les Demoiselles 1er Cru has a perfumed bouquet with lime and orange pith scents, although I would have liked more mineralité given the climat. The palate is slightly creamy in texture on the entry, though this is counterbalanced by a silver thread of acidity. Light tropical notes at its core—mango and orange cordial—deliver just a touch of spice on the finish. Sadly, this seems to deteriorate in the glass, forcing me to lower my score. Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting.

  • Philippe et Vincent Lecheneaut Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru Les Damodes 2016 (12x75cl)

    Vinous (92-94)

Bright deep ruby. Vibrant aromas of blackberry, crushed black cherry, cassis, violet and black pepper complicated by pungent stony minerality. Juicy, penetrating wine with terrific energy and intensity to its flavors of dark berries, crushed stone, espresso, bitter chocolate and iodiney minerality. The wine's firm tannins saturate the front teeth without coming off as hard. Really stimulates the taste buds on the very long finish. I like this! The pH here is 3.36, or a bit lower than the rest of these 2016s. Superb for this bottling, and built for a long life in the cellar.

Medium ruby, less saturated than the Damodes. Totally different on the nose, offering complex scents of wilder berries, dark cherry, licorice, garrigue and spices, plus a complicating soil element. Less black fruit and floral in character than the more primary Damodes but very sexy right now, conveying a silky texture and noteworthy volume to its fruit, spice and savory mineral flavors. This wine is typically more difficult to taste early than the Damodes but with its impression of high pH (actually 3.54), this '16 should offer relatively early pleasure.

  • Philippe et Vincent Lecheneaut Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru Les Pruliers 2016 (12x75cl)

    Vinous (92-94)

Medium ruby, less saturated than the Damodes. Totally different on the nose, offering complex scents of wilder berries, dark cherry, licorice, garrigue and spices, plus a complicating soil element. Less black fruit and floral in character than the more primary Damodes but very sexy right now, conveying a silky texture and noteworthy volume to its fruit, spice and savory mineral flavors. This wine is typically more difficult to taste early than the Damodes but with its impression of high pH (actually 3.54), this '16 should offer relatively early pleasure.
