I loved the 2020 Château Bouscaut. It has an incredible nose of pure cassis and black raspberries interwoven with notes of violets, tobacco, sous bois, and ample spicy background oak. Just a classic Graves on the palate, with medium to full-bodied richness, lots of classic minerality, scorched earth nuances, ripe tannins, and a great finish, it’s going to benefit from 4-5 years of bottle age and keep for 15-20 years or more. I love the balance, and this is unquestionably a wine well worth seeking out.

Dark, glowing crimson. Quite a rich, ripe nose. Suave palate with sufficient fruit (I wonder why their Merlot did so well?) and yet some bordeaux rigidity. Bone dry! Classic build that will always need food but the structure is fine. It’s just a little lacking density.

This has so much character with stone, mineral and sliced-lemon character. Medium body and a vibrant backbone of acidity. Very pretty.

Full bottle a heavy 1,375 g. Clear glass wrapped in silver foil. Undated cask sample. 68% Sémillon, 32% Sauvignon Blanc. Aged 12 months in oak barrels (40% new). Interesting Sémillon-dominated blend that is fresher than Ferrande's and, on the basis of past vintages of Bouscaut Blanc, should age well. Waxy textured with green fruit and leafy flavours. Very lively with good breadth. Thoroughly rewarding. Quite long. 13.5%

Still a little cloudy, suggesting lees ageing. Really exciting energy, masses of ripe fruit and a top note of light struck-match character. Very long. Bouscaut does it again with its white wine! Sherbet and savour – more complex than many dry white bordeaux. Still a bit of chew on the end.

The 2022 Château Bouscaut Blanc delivers melon rind, cantaloupe, and sappy floral notes. Medium-bodied, juicy, and nicely balanced, it’s another pure, elegant, and well-made white.

A firm and tight St.-Emilion with a firm-tannin frame. Dark currants, blackberries, crushed stones and some tobacco. Mineral and tight for now.

Vinous - Neal Martin (93)

The 2015 Boyd-Cantenac offers attractive raspberry and wild strawberry on the nose, the oak nicely integrated and hints of rose petal emerging with time. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin and punchy red berry fruit laced with brown spices and graphite, leading to a cohesive finish with good density and length. Extremely dense, fruity and full-bodied, yet it’s also tight and very refined with silky tannins and a flavorful finish. This is something in the making. Best in years.

The 2017 Boyd-Cantenac is noticeably deep in colour. It has a very intense bouquet with baked black cherries mixed with iodine and light violet aromas, becoming more floral with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, a fine bead of acidity, but clearly much more backward than its peers with a strong Pauillac-inspired, graphite finish. A really interesting Margaux that I am fascinated to see evolve.

It's a rich style, full on the palate with a cooling menthol aspect to it but it has nice spicy edges and bright acidity propelling it forward. The texture stands out, smooth but present tannins giving a mouthfeel that is so appealing. One I really wanted another glass of, but it will be even better with a few more years ageing.
