The 2022 Châteauneuf Du Pape reminds me of the 2007 with its incredible sexiness and seamless, elegant texture. Black cherry liqueur, Provençal herbs, flowers, and licorice are just some of its nuances, and it's full-bodied, with a layered mouthfeel, gorgeous tannins, and a great, great finish. A candidate for perfection, the 2022 Chateauneuf du Pape La Reserve is a blend of 60% Grenache and 40% Mourvèdre from sandy parcels in Guigasse and Pignan. Alluring scents of crushed stone, floral elements and almost truffle-like complexities accent black cherries and plums on the nose, while the wine is full-bodied and expansive in the mouth yet manages to do that without seeming heavy or overly rich, and the silky finish is near-endless, reverberating with notes of dark fruit and licorice.

While this cuvée wasn't made in 2021 due to the frosts, the 2022 Côtes Du Rhône La Reserve should make up for it – it’s a brilliant Côtes Du Rhône that readers will love. Bing cherries, red plums, blackberries, black licorice, and sappy flower notes are just some of its nuances, and it hits the palate with full-bodied richness, a deep, layered mouthfeel, ripe tannins, and a great finish. I loved the 2022 Clos Du Marquis, which is a brilliant effort, if not the finest vintage of this cuvée I've tasted. Cassis, graphite, and floral notes all define the bouquet, and it's full-bodied, with ultra-fine tannins and flawless balance. Jane Anson Inside Bordeaux (98)

Mathieu Cuvelier marks 20 years of the Cuvelier family at Clos Fourtet with this vintage, and it's a wonderful attestation to the potential of limestone plateau location for coping with a changing climate in Bordeaux. Visually arresting in its deep plum and violet colour, with a luscious texture, and plenty of subtle red roses and peony floral aromatics. Creamy black and blue fruits, and sublimely well measured tannic extraction, with crunchy salinity on the finish, oyster shell and salt-flecked chocolate notes. Super smooth finish. First year with the addition of Les Grandes Murailles vineyard. StŽphane Derenoncourt and Jean-Claude Berrouet consultants (working together since 2009). Not too interventionist, no cold soaks here, natural yeasts, with whole bunch ferments for the young vines. Harvest September 9 to 27. 3.54ph. 40% new oak, 58% second-fill barrels, 2% amphoras.

The 2022 Clos L'Eglise, 70% Merlot and 30% Cabernet Franc, is deep garnet-purple in color. It features straight-laced, classic scents of warm black plums, blueberry preserves, and cedar chest, leading to suggestions of iron ore, Sichuan pepper, and fertile loam. The full-bodied palate is wonderfully bright and pure, with fresh black fruits and earthy accents supported by very firm, very ripe tannins and finishing long and mineral-laced. 1.5 ha of Merlot is being replanted, so there is a higher percentage of Cabernet Franc this year, which really lends a shine to the wine! pH 3.75.

Not in bottle. Pale lemon and lime. The bouquet leaps out of the glass, with an intensity of fruit taken at perfect ripeness. Excellent energy through the middle, racy and still fine. The Enseignères leaves a beautifully balanced aftertaste. Drink from 2027-2034. Tasted: October 2023.

This is from the excellent Pargues vineyard, vinified and aged in stainless steel. Pale colour. The bouquet has a Chablisian crispness but also the juiciness of this 2022 vintage. Crisply concentrated on the palate, this still needs quite a bit more elevage. Which always needs time as shown by the reductive tang. Drink from 2024-2027. Tasted: June 2023.

Tasted from multiple foudre, this is unquestionably up with the finest in the vintage, and as I’ve written in the past, it’s almost impossible to have too much Clos des Papes in the cellar!

Delectable swirls of strawberries, cherries and red raspberries mark the nose of the 2022 Chateauneuf du Pape Les Safres, a 90-10 blend of Grenache and Mourvèdre from the sandy soils of the les Bédines lieu-dit. Full-bodied yet silky, this vintage shows even more persistence of flavor on the finish than usual.

It's going to be one of the finest Côtes Du Rhône out there.

I loved the 2022 Clos Du Marquis, which is a brilliant effort, if not the finest vintage of this cuvée I've tasted. Cassis, graphite, and floral notes all define the bouquet, and it's full-bodied, with ultra-fine tannins and flawless balance. It shows the ripe, concentrated, powerful style of the vintage yet is incredibly pure and seamless, with everything in the right places. It's going to round into form with just a few years of bottle age but have decades of prime drinking.

The Wine Independent (95-97)

The 2022 Clos L'Eglise, 70% Merlot and 30% Cabernet Franc, is deep garnet-purple in color. It features straight-laced, classic scents of warm black plums, blueberry preserves, and cedar chest, leading to suggestions of iron ore, Sichuan pepper, and fertile loam. The full-bodied palate is wonderfully bright and pure, with fresh black fruits and earthy accents supported by very firm, very ripe tannins and finishing long and mineral-laced. 1.5 ha of Merlot is being replanted, so there is a higher percentage of Cabernet Franc this year, which really lends a shine to the wine! pH 3.75.
